Food for the Soul
“In the face of across-the-board diminishing
membership of liturgical mainstream churches in
the Western World, and in the face of the rapid
growth of an alternative culture of what might be
called mechanical-biblical Christianity in which
liturgy plays little or no part, “holding the line” is
not where we should be at. Instead we need
adventurous communities of faith willing to push
out the liturgical boat a little and new ways of giving thanks to God over bread
and wine in the assembly. The language and thought forms developed will need
to be not only fresh and dynamic but also sufficiently rich to sustain us in faith
and deepen our spiritual formation. Above all the challenge is to create
Eucharistic prayers that are full of meaning but free of jargon.”
