Jesus is the “living water”

Jeremiah 17:5-10 is not about God punishing or blessing people based on their goodness or badness, but rather about where they place their trust. Trusting in mere mortals leads to a life of spiritual barrenness, while trusting in God provides a deep source of life, much like trees that thrive in arid conditions by finding water sources. True strength comes from surrendering control rather than trying to manage everything ourselves. The imagery of desert plants, particularly the resilient Banksia, illustrates how deep roots in faith sustain people through difficult times.
