Jesus’ words about bringing fire and division can be unsettling, especially when they touch on family and close relationships. Yet he speaks this truth to remind us that following him will sometimes disrupt what feels safe or comfortable. His message challenges us not to settle for surface peace but to seek the deeper truth of God’s kingdom.
At the heart of this challenge is the question: Who is Jesus? Our answer shapes our lives. The Creed proclaims him as the Son of God, true God from true God, and through the Spirit’s fire we are drawn closer to him in worship and daily life. This same fire also reveals our inner struggles and conflicts, refining us and calling us to greater trust in Christ.
Conflict, whether within us or around us, is not meaningless. It is often the place where God works most powerfully, stripping away what is false and drawing us into his truth. As we hold fast to Jesus, the fire becomes not destruction but transformation—leading us into the love of God that gives life, hope, and peace.
